The original from the Fender Lead series from the early 80s, which was reissued a few years ago.
Made in the USA, year of manufacture: 1981.
Beautifully grained ash body with a “Cherry Sunburst” finish. As with the Telecaster, the strings are fed through the body from the back into the fixed bridge (strings through body).
One-piece, beautifully grained maple neck with medium C profile and 21 medium frets.
Equipped with two Fender Lead III humbucker pickups.
The circuitry is exceptionally versatile for its time and offers a total of seven different sound combinations, which can be accessed using the two three-way switches:
Pickup selector switch:
Selects between neck pickup, both pickups, or bridge pickup.
Split switch:
The upper position splits only the neck humbucker.
The middle position deactivates the split, and both pickups work as humbuckers in series.
The lower position splits only the bridge humbucker.
Unlike conventional coil splits, which often split both pickups simultaneously, the Lead III's circuitry allows you to specifically select which humbucker should be split. This allows you to access fat humbucker sounds, wiry single-coil tones, and two mix sounds from both sound worlds.
The Lead III is therefore somewhat unjustly overshadowed by the Telecaster and Stratocaster models. Its variable circuitry gives it unexpected versatility, from country twang to rock riffs. And it sounds truly excellent with top playability. Once you pick it up, you won't want to put it down.
Comes exactly as pictured in the rectangular case shown.
Clean and well-maintained condition with only minimal signs of use—see pictures. There are only a few subtle paint scratches (including slight belt buckle marks). The frets have only tiny signs of wear.
