About this listing
Dates to October 1972, was the last full year for all of these features:checkerboard bindingfull-fret crushed pearl inlaystoaster pickup'gap-tooth' bridgeUnoriginal features and issues:I was told by the seller that the frets were changed at some point.I was told the original pickguards are single-ply perspex, not the laminated traffelite 3-ply type on this one, so it looks like the pickguard was changed at some point. The tuners have been changed. They are Grover tuners, but they are not the original boxed-in style that came with the 4001 in 1972. The mounts/housing seem to be a bit smaller as you can see the holes for the original tuners just on the edge of the current tuners in the pictures.Missing the chrome pickup coverA number of wear-spots, chips, or filled holes just above the E-string stretching from the bridge to the neck pickup.Mark on the top of the neck just by the headstock.A good amount of chrome has flaked off of the bridgeSome of the paint (around the ‘ker’) on the plastic truss rod cover transferred to the headstock when it was removed at some point in the pastIt plays and sounds incredible. Great cold piano-like clarity from the bridge pickup. Classic McCartney warm tone from the neck pickup. There is no tail-lift, which can be an issue with these basses. Currently strung with TI Jazz Flats.
