The Motown classic! This is the solid state successor to the KM 66 small diaphragm tube microphone and predecessor to the KM86. The KM 76 offered switchable polar patterns (omni, cardioid, figure-8) and operated T-powered. These are the lowest serial numbered units I have seen on the market in several years (#398 and 423) and have just confirmed with Neumann the year of their production to be 1967 and 1968 respectively. Along with this supreme sounding pair, I am offering the Neumann 452i dual phantom power supply (manufactured in 1969) which vastly expands the application of these mics as you can use them with any preamp - even older ones that don’t supply phantom power. Each of these mics is essentially two KM84‘s in one (two KK84 capsules back to back) and it has been said that the comb filtering resulting from the shape and construction of the head basket makes these a superior sounding microphone to the 84. In the late 60s, Motown was working around the clock which required a team of recording engineers. Rather than leaving the option to chose which mic for which application, Barry Gordy decided to purchase a few dozen of these rather than any other microphone available at that time to use on every single source.
Also included in this set are two EV 312 mic clips (which I would recommend replacing with the K&M 85035) and two different tuchel to XLR 48v > T converters (one is PSC and one is Drefahl). These mics in conjunction with the 452i are dead silent, in great shape for their age and sound utterly fantastic.
