The WA273-EQ is Warm Audio's faithful two-channel reproduction of the complete 1073 channel strip — preamp and EQ — built to the same philosophy as the original, with no corners cut on the components that matter most.

What makes it special

The WA273-EQ features custom Carnhill transformers from Cambridgeshire, UK, and is hand-wired and hand-assembled throughout. Tantalum and polystyrene capacitors are used in the signal path, and the output transistor was carefully chosen to work more smoothly when pushed at higher gain — faithful to the original 1073 design. ZenPro Audio

The complex dual-concentric switch potentiometers in the EQ sections are made in the UK by Blore Edwards, who manufacture military-spec switches and potentiometers. The use of Blore Edwards components is no small inclusion for a '73-style preamp-EQ in this price range. Broadcast Supply Worldwide

The EQ section is a full inductor-based three-band design — the same topology as the original 1073, with one welcome addition: the high band on the WA273-EQ allows you to switch between 10, 12, and 16 kHz, going beyond the fixed 12 kHz shelf of the original 1073 and borrowing the additional frequency points from the 1084 EQ. ProPlugin

Full EQ specifications: Low Band boost/cut at 35, 60, 110, or 220 Hz — Mid Band at 360, 700, 1600, 3200, 4800, or 7200 Hz — High Band at 10, 12, or 16 kHz — plus a four-position inductor-based high-pass filter at 50, 80, 160, or 300 Hz. Reverb

Up to 80 dB of gain via a resistor-stepped switch. The TONE button switches input transformer impedance between 1200Ω and 300Ω for tonal variation — particularly useful with ribbon and dynamic microphones. Insert send/return jacks on each channel, front and rear XLR mic inputs, front-panel instrument DI, balanced XLR and TRS outputs.
