Welcome,

For consideration a very nice Kimbara 25/Z full size solid top classical guitar.

Handmade in Japan in 1978, and in very good playable and players condition.

Suzuki Violin Company built this guitar for UK distribution by a company called FCN (Fletcher Coppock Newman) and their exclusive Kimbara brand, this brand was synonymous with affordable MIJ acoustic and classical guitars.

This is part of their higher range of classicals, they are not easy to find and in 1978 would not have been affordable to many!

Many of the Kimbara guitars were made by the top Japanese factories such as Suzuki Violin Company in this instance, yet also Takamine and even K. Yairi made for them, ensuring the quality was always there.

There are two versions of this guitar, one was made with laminated materials, easier to find, and one was solid wood, this is the solid wood version, many people confuse the two because they maker actually painted grain lines across the soundhole cross-section, to give the impression that the board was solid - that is how dedicated they were, and for noticing this, you can also be sure how dedicated we are! The board on this one is 100% solid though, we guarantee that.

This piece has the same spec as the Takeharu GT-500, which commonly sells much higher than our modest asking price here.

Action over the twelfth fret on the low E string: circa 3 mm

Action over the twelfth fret on the high E string: circa 2.5 mm

Soundboard: solid cedar

Back and sides: Jacaranda (Brazillian rosewood)

Neck: mahogany

Fretboard: rosewood

Bridge: rosewood

Machine heads: Upgraded Ortega (1:14 ratio)

Frets: Upgraded, stainless steel

Nut: Upgraded bone

Saddle: bone

Finish: UV Cure Poly

Scale length: 650 mm

Nut width: 52 mm

Overall length: 1004 mm

Constructed: 1978 Japan

Its a responsive guitar that punches above its weight, for want of a less macho turn of phrase!

The well-seasoned solid cedar top board is nicely open, the usual cosmetic trade off can be seen which is worth the compromise for such an experienced and well rounded piece.

Aesthetically, who could argue with the seriously beautiful back board with intricate marquetry throughout, its no joke to get into $4000 to have your luthier get near to this in a modern build, not that any modern build would sound anywhere near this!
