FOR SALE — Extremely Rare Monette Prototype Trombone
Offered for sale is one of only approximately 4 trombones ever built by legendary brass instrument maker Dave Monette of Monette Corporation.
I am the original owner and worked directly with Dave Monette during the developmental/testing period of these instruments in Chicago.
This instrument was professionally performed by myself while serving as an extra player with the Boston Symphony Orchestra 1986-90 and in the Naples Philharmonic where I am currently the Principal Trombone since 1990.
Known owners/players of Monette trombones from this era included:
• Norman Bolter, BSO
• Frank Crisafulli, CSO
• Larry Isaacson, Extra with BSO and BSO Pops
• Michael Zion (original owner of this instrument), Extra with BSO and BSO Pops and Principal Trombone with the Naples Philharmonic 1990-present.
Additional provenance:
• Original owner
• Rare experimental/prototype Monette design
• Official replacement valuation letter from Monette Corporation valuing the instrument at $35,000 for replacement insurance purposes
• Significant historical interest to serious trombonists, brass collectors and Monette enthusiasts
This is NOT a standard production trombone:
It is a highly specialized and exceptionally rare Monette instrument from an important developmental period in Monette history. Dave Monette only handmade 4 trombones. It is a Large Bore Tenor Trombone. Bore is .547. 8.5 inch Yellow Brass Bell that was annealed at very high precise temperature. This results in a very stable and uniform response without molecular tension. Soldered bead around bell edge.
Condition:
Excellent overall condition with normal signs of careful professional use. Slide is in perfect working condition. This trombone has a great resonant sound, projection and the quickest response of any instrument I have performed on.
Price: $23,000 OBO
