Added a video so you can hear it for yourself!
I’ve posted and removed this listing quite a few times in the last few years. But this time I’m finally biting the bullet and keeping it up for sale to use the money for more essential things. Offers speak louder than words. If you think this bass is worth less than the listing price, make an offer. That's what that button is for.
This may or may not be the exact Yamaha BB2000 bass that is used by Verdine White in Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Let’s Groove” music video (pretty good shot of it around 1:20). As you can see, it has a few allegedly one-of-a-kind customizations. These include:
- A white finish
- Black volume and tone knobs
- Strap locks
- An amazing metal piece of artwork inlayed into the body
All of these modifications are visually present in the music video. I have never seen another BB2000 with any of these features (except for maybe strap locks). These modifications could have been custom-ordered by Verdine, or could have been done by him after purchasing a stock BB2000.
What I do know is that this bass was very well-played. The original frets were absolutely trashed, and the new frets are the only thing I’ve personally changed about this bass. The re-fret was done by Avi Shabat of Shabat Guitars.
Aside from the cool factor, this is an amazing sounding bass. The reason I bought this bass was because I wanted the BB2000 sound, and I was lucky enough to get this one. It’s got a really amazing neck pickup, but my overall favorite position is the middle. The bridge pickup is also amazing, but definitely very bright and has 60 cycle hum. It’s also surprisingly comfortable to play, despite its wide neck.
Here are the other specs (assuming the rest of this bass is standard):
Body: Alder wings
Neck: Maple and mahogany laminate
Construction: Neck-through
Fretboard: Striped ebony
Scale: 34”
Neck pickup: Yamaha reverse P
Bridge pickup: Yamaha J blade
Controls: Volume, tone, pickup switch
Tuners: Yamaha heart
Bridge: Yamaha vintage-style
Strap: Moody wide leather
Strings: LaBella Olinto Flats
Tuning: E Standard
String height: 5/64
Truss rod: .008
String nut over 1st fret: .020
Weight: 10.5lb
There’s some paint chipping and scratches throughout the body and neck. I’ve tried to show the main ones in the photos. There’s an aesthetic crack by the knobs, but it does not seem to go deep into the wood at all.
If I were to keep this bass, I would probably update the tuners. They work perfectly fine, but the heart-shaped heads can wiggle ever so slightly when messed with. That being said, they’ve never failed me.
I’ve told you everything I know! If there’s anything you want me to clear up, feel free to message me. But to answer a common question, I did not buy this directly from Verdine and do not have any documentation.
This Reverb listing is the ONLY listing for this bass. If you see it for sale anywhere else, it’s not me. I have over 150 5-Star reviews and am a preferred seller, but if you have any further suspicions don’t hesitate to message me. I’m not a mysterious person.
Will be shipped in a hard case.
