The Universal Audio LA-610 brings together two iconic pieces of recording technology in a single 2U rackmount unit. Combining a modified version of the legendary 610 tube microphone preamplifier with an LA-2A-style T4 optical compressor, the LA-610 delivers the rich harmonic character, warmth, and natural dynamic control that have defined countless classic recordings.Inspired by the original 610 console designed by Bill Putnam Sr. in the 1950s, the Class A tube preamp features transformer-balanced circuitry, selectable input impedance, and independent Gain and Level controls. This arrangement allows engineers to shape the harmonic character of the signal, from subtle tube warmth to more pronounced saturation.The integrated T4 optical compressor uses the same optical gain-control components found in the legendary Teletronix LA-2A. Its program-dependent response delivers smooth, musical compression, with selectable Compress and Limit modes for different levels of dynamic control.A two-band shelving EQ provides additional tonal shaping, while dedicated microphone, line, and Hi-Z instrument inputs make the LA-610 equally suitable for recording vocals, guitars, bass, and other instruments.
