Catalinbread's take on the Rangemaster, updated. The Naga Viper MKII keeps the Dallas Rangemaster DNA that Brian May, Rory Gallagher, and Tony Iommi built entire careers on, but reworks it with a hotter transistor and a new Attenuate control that the original circuit never had.
Four knobs: Heat, Boost, Range, and Attn. Heat is your gain control — all the way down gives a classic slightly-dirty treble boost; roll it up and it becomes a drive unit in its own right. Boost sets output level, and Catalinbread went with a rarer, hotter potentiometer value here (the kind that turned up in a handful of vintage units players swore ran gainier). Range governs how much bass gets let into the circuit — down for full-frequency response and more gain, up for the classic narrow treble-booster voicing.
The Attn knob is the real addition in the MKII. Old-school treble boosters were designed to be the only pedal in the chain, feeding straight into a cranked amp — they don't always play nice stacked after other gain pedals. Attn lets you tame the incoming signal so the Naga Viper has room to do its thing even at the end of a busy board.
Runs 9–18V DC, negative center. Battery-compatible.
