Arai Diamond 1720 or (U.S.) Phase II Univox Hi-Flier bass made in Japan at the Matsumoku plant somewhere around 1971.

Beautifully made and superbly finished. This is Japanese guitar building at its best.

Condition-wise...

This is excellent for its age. The sunburst finish, neck and head are almost spotless.

No cracks, splits or repairs to the body which has only some pretty hard to spot grazes.

Some surface hairlines to the finish but these are purely cosmetic.

Fretboard is great, frets are high and hardware is all-original - pickups, controls, tuners, bridge etc.

Original chrome bridge cover is included, complete with some original mute foam.

These super P90-type pickups (actually powerful single coils) are very punchy and give these basses a sound and stature way beyond their pay grade.

Plays and sounds great. Really smooth and fast action.

This nails those vintage bass tones effortlessly. Serious depth on offer and a really versatile sound palette.

An absolute joy to play.

Superb Matsumoku golden-era build quality, fantastic pickups and a lovely fast and comfortable feel.
