The 1971 Martin D-18 is a classic, punchy acoustic workhorse known for its dry, woody mid-range and signature Martin low-end. Featuring a Sitka spruce top, mahogany back/sides, and a non-adjustable neck, it is highly prized for bluegrass and rhythm playing.
The D-18 is known for its focused, articulate tone. Unlike rosewood models (like the D-28), which have a more complex, shimmering overtone, the '71 D-18 cuts through a mix perfectly. This makes it an exceptional instrument for flatpicking, bluegrass rhythm, and recording work. [1, 2, 3]
