Fender Custom Shop 1952 Telecaster Relic — 2022 — Taos Turquoise
This is a Custom Shop 52 Tele built to a specification that goes well beyond a standard relic finish. The quartersawn maple neck is the detail worth pausing on — quartersawing produces a cut that runs perpendicular to the growth rings, giving the wood significantly greater stiffness, dimensional stability, and resistance to warping over time compared to a flatsawn neck. On a maple neck with no separate fingerboard, that structural quality translates directly into tone: tighter grain, better energy transfer, and a neck that stays exactly where it was set up. It is the approach taken on the best vintage Fender necks of the early 1950s, and it is not standard practice on production instruments today.
The rest of the specification is equally deliberate: 2-piece select ash body, 52 U-shape neck profile, 50s-spec truss rod, compound radius fingerboard, hand-wound HW 51 Nocaster pickups voiced to the Broadcaster-era spec, and a grease bucket tone circuit. The gold anodized aluminium pickguard and Taos Turquoise finish give it a visual identity well outside the standard 52 Tele palette — a Custom Shop-specific colour that works extraordinarily well against the ash grain.
The relic work is restrained and consistent. Near mint condition. Includes original tweed hardshell case and Certificate of Authenticity.
