1961 Gibson GA-8 Discoverer Tremolo

We present an original 1961 Gibson GA-8 Discoverer Tremolo Amplifier. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This amp features an off-white textured Tolex finish and embodies Gibson’s innovative design during the early 1960s. Despite its modest 10-watt output, it offers a powerful and rich tone with excellent breakup, making it ideal for recording or lower-powered gigs.

Condition

This fantastic GA-8 from ’61 is in excellent condition though it shows some wear on the white tolex, especially in the top-corners. The chrome control plate shows some wear and scratches where some of the letterings have faded, but most of them are still visible/readable. The brown grill cloth is in very nice condition – the same goes for the Gibson logo.

Originality

It features the original 12″ Jensen speaker (model 12JII) that is healthy and in perfect condition. All transformers are original as well. The amplifier has been professionally serviced and equipped with a newer 3-prong power cord, ensuring it runs perfectly. 4 new screws in the back panel and with its space-age styling, including a satellite graphic on the faceplate and a handle with an embedded Gibson logo, it is both visually striking and musically versatile.

This amp is one of Gibson’s most popular models, known for its great sound and character. This one is ready to deliver outstanding tones for collectors, musicians, or vintage amp enthusiasts.

To keep it as original as possible, you’ll need a step-down transformer if you’re based in Europe. We have these in stock and they can be purchased through Guitar Hunter.
