Custom Microphone "ML 4/67 fet" (U47fet style body, flat K67 capsule, transformer coupled circuit)

I had this microphone custom-built for myself according to my own specifications and then refined it further:

• Body: “M47 FET” by Mic&Mod
• Electronics: “990XF Circuit Kit” from micparts with transformer and top-grade Mundorf EVO Silver-Gold capacitor
• Capsule: Custom K67 from micparts (taken from the T-67): flat frequency response in the midrange, a very slight attenuation (~1 dB) in the sibilance range, and a smooth, gentle lift (~1.5 dB) in the air band

The material cost was about 750,00 EUR at the time I bought the components.

The microphone works flawlessly, with relatively high output and very low self-noise*, and it sounds excellent: the resolution is extremely good. Its tonal balance and pleasing coloration give it a rich, full character with beautifully articulated highs.

What I like best is the midrange for vocals, as its subtle presence renders my voice (speech) almost tailor-made.

It will certainly be a great choice for many voices (speech & singing) as well as for acoustic instruments.

Since I am reducing my studio gear to the absolute minimum, I am parting with this microphone – as well as a Neumann TLM 170R (four-digit serial number).

*) Upon request, I can provide a short comparison recording in which I speak from the same distance into both this microphone and a Neumann TLM 103, which is known for its very high output and extremely low self-noise. Of course, both are recorded at identical speaking distance directly into the preamps of my Neumann MT 48.

Dieses Mikrofon habe ich für mich selbst nach meinen Vorstellungen anfertigen lassen und anschließend noch weiter verfeinert:

• Body: „M47 FET“ von Mic&Mod
• Elektronik: „990XF Circuit Kit“ von micparts mit Übertrager und hochwertigstem Mundorf EVO Silver-Gold-Kondensator
• Kapsel: Custom K67 von micparts (aus dem T-67): linearer Frequenzgang in den Mitten, eine ganz leichte Absenkung (ca. 1 dB) im Sibilanzbereich sowie eine sanfte, gleichmäßige Anhebung (ca. 1,5 dB) im Air-Bereich

Die Materialkosten lagen zum Zeitpunkt des Kaufes bei ca. 750,00€

Das Mikrofon funktioniert uneingeschränkt, mit relativ hohem Output und sehr niedrigem Grundrauschen*, und klingt hervorragend: Die Auflösung ist sehr, sehr gut. Die tonale Balance sowie die angenehme Färbung verleihen dem Mikrofon einen satten, vollen Charakter mit sehr schön artikulierten Höhen.

Am besten gefällt mir der Mittenbereich für Stimmen, weil er durch eine feine Präsenz meine Stimme (Sprache) nahezu maßgeschneidert abbildet.

Bestimmt ist es für viele Stimmen (Sprache & Gesang) sowie für akustische Instrumente hervorragend geeignet.

Da ich meinen Bestand an Studiotechnik auf das Mindestmaß reduziere, trenne ich mich von diesem Mikrofon – ebenso wie von einem Neumann TLM 170R (vierstellige Seriennummer).

*) Auf Wunsch fertige ich eine kleine Vergleichsaufnahme an, in der ich aus gleichem Abstand gleichzeitig in dieses Mikrofon und in ein Neumann TLM 103 spreche, das ja einen sehr hohen Output und ein extrem niedriges Grundrauschen hat. Natürlich jeweils bei identischem Besprechungsabstand direkt in die Vorverstärker meines Neumann MT 48.
