For Sale: Ultra-Rare Early Neumann U47 – Large Chrome Badge w/ GN107 Transformer

One of the first - 200 U47s ever made – the origin of a legend

This is the rarest version of all Neumann U47 tube microphones.
In fact, it may very well be the rarest and most desirable microphone in the world.

Manufactured in the late 1940s, this unit is among the first - 200 U47s ever built - distinguished by its large chrome badge, the unique GN107 transformer (originally used in the CMV5), and a noticeably heavier build than later BV08-equipped versions.

This is not just a vintage microphone.
This is the birth of the U47 as we know it.

What’s Included:

  • Original Neumann U47 microphone (large chrome badge, GN107 transformer)
  • Vintage power supply
  • Cable with rare swivel connector
  • Case
  • Fully functional and ready to record

Technical Highlights:

  • M7 capsule – full of tone, depth, and subtlety
  • Telefunken VF14 tube – the legendary heart of the U47, operating perfectly
  • GN107 output transformer – ultra-rare and sonically unique
  • Serviced by Peter Drefahl, one of the most respected names in vintage mic restoration

Tone & Presence

This U47 delivers that sound.
It has a rich, powerful low-mid range, velvety top end, and a three-dimensional realism that is nearly impossible to replicate. The combination of the M7 capsule and GN107 transformer creates a tone that is slightly rawer, more immediate, and more intimate than later revisions.

It doesn’t just capture a voice - it captures a moment.

Collector’s Note

Years ago, I sold off a personal collection of over 400 vintage microphones. But I kept only the most irreplaceable pieces - those with historic significance, sonic excellence, and emotional gravity. This U47 was one of them.

I no longer track vocals and now work primarily in a mix environment, which is the only reason I am letting it go.
It deserves to be used, heard, and loved.

This is a museum-grade microphone - one of the first U47s ever made, and one of the only surviving examples in working condition.
It sounds as magical as it is rare.

If you’ve been waiting for a once-in-a-lifetime U47 - the kind that defines a collection, a studio, or even a career - this is your chance.
