Up for sale is a rare, short-lived piece of early ’90s Fender history: a 1991 Fender Prodigy II in very good condition.
Produced for only about two and a half years to compete with the "Superstrat" craze of the era, the Fender Prodigyfeatures a uniquely offset, slightly pointier body shape with sharper horns than a standard Stratocaster.
This specific Prodigy II model features a highly responsive, factory-original Kahler locking tremolo system paired with a sleek black pickguard, a master volume knob, a master tone knob, and a pickguard-mounted output jack.
Key Upgrades & ToneThe original bridge pickup has been upgraded to a premium Seymour Duncan Trembucker, giving this guitar a massive sonic upgrade. The Trembucker's wider pole-piece spacing aligns perfectly with the locking bridge string spacing, providing balanced output, exceptional clarity, and a thick, high-output rock tone. Paired with the two original single-coils, this HSS setup is highly versatile for everything from glassy cleans to high-gain shredding.
Condition & Playability
- Overall Condition: Very Good. The Crimson Red Metallic finish retains a beautiful gloss with only minor, honest cosmetic wear expected from a 30+ year-old instrument.
- Neck & Fretboard: 22-fret bolt-on maple neck with a fast, comfortable profile and crisp pearl dot inlays. Frets show minimal wear with plenty of life left.
- Electronics: Fully tested and 100% functional. Pots and the 5-way selector switch operate smoothly without any scratchy noise.
- Hardware: The original black hardware and locking tremolo remain in great working condition.
