Last week, we wrote about how Techno Empire, a Los Angeles–based music shop, consistently has some of the best listings on Reverb, including items it sells for professional artists. Last week, it was a cache of Robben Ford gear, and this week, Techno Empire has returned with a trove of guitars, basses, effects, and more from Wendy & Lisa.
The duo formed out of the ashes of Prince's The Revolution once that band split in 1986. Guitarist Wendy Melvoin and keyboardist Lisa Coleman, who had known each other and played music together since childhood, became multi-instrumentalists for their 1987 self-titled debut, playing all the instruments themselves.
Throughout their recording careers, both have been sought-after session musicians, collaborating with everyone from k.d. lang to Pearl Jam. On sale through Techno Empire is an arsenal of stage- and studio-played gear.
This includes the a custom Tobias 5-string bass, as seen in their music video "Sideshow." It still has stickers reading "Girlbrothers" across its body, from when the duo briefly went by that band name in the '90s. The Tobias is joined by two more great basses—a Silver Sparkle Danelectro '59 DC and a Jerry Jones JJ Original Longhorn.
Guitars in the collection include a white Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Strat, a Gretsch 6131 Jet Firebird, and a '95 Gibson Les Paul Classic.
In addition, there's a selection of funk-pedigreed rack-mounted gear like a Mesa-Boogie Quad Preamp, a Roland DEP-5 effects processor, and more.
