Dynacord Echo King tube amplifier, 65 watts RMS, 'Made in Germany', 1963. This amplifier was the top of the line and probably the most "extravagant" Dynacord ever made. With a huge range of options and effects, a monster for its time and even today. Excellent construction and attention to detail, the amplification and pre-amplification are separate/shielded! This fact, added to the fact that they are physically separated, pre-amplification and amplification, greatly reduces interference and operating noise, making it quite quiet for the time. The Echo King is in great condition, very well cared for!
Regarding the amplifier: Its construction features 2x EL34 tubes (NOS paired) + 4x ECC83 + 1x ECC81. It has two completely independent channels with 2x inputs per channel. Including an output just for wet echo. Like all German amplifiers of the time, it has jack and DIN system inputs. Dynacord has Tremolo, Echo, and Distortion effects, all 100% tube-based. The Tremolo is quite good, very round and crisp, with length and intensity options. The 1st channel has 3x filtering options on the input, for guitar, microphone, and bass, all on the lower switches on the front of the amplifier. The speaker output is 16 Ohms.
Regarding the Tape Echo: Its construction shares some of the amplifier's pre-amplification and in particular 2x ECC83 + 1x ECC82. In fact, it is a Dynacord Echocord S65, with only a few differences in one point or another. The motor is PAPST and has an electromechanical system (Magnet) to pull the pinch roller to the motor shaft. In Echocord there are 3x different types of echoes and 2x recording heads. In the Dynacord Echo King there is 1x more recording and playback head. That is, 4x different types of echo and 3x recording heads. There is also a Reverb option that activates all recording and playback heads simultaneously, and it is even possible to adjust the volume of each head using 3 selector pots located in the upper left. It is a very interesting feature where we can choose which of the 4 repetitions (echoes) we want to hear with more intensity/volume. The 4 echo types are done in a less conventional way, that is, instead of the typical 1 recording head and 4 playback heads, it is possible to have the combination of several echoes, you just need to press the switches at the same time to select the various echoes together. And another option to switch between 1 recording head or all 3 recording heads at the same time. All this on the top switches on the front of the amplifier. A band even made an album in memory of the Dynacord Echo King.
It was all reviewed and treated by a specialized technician. As for the Dynacord maintenance, it is 100% and ready for professional use and recording. It was necessary to perform maintenance that would remove the more than 50 years that the device has, and to repair the wear and tear caused by time and all the worn parts.
Maintenance: -Aligned, tuned, and cleaned the heads -Demagnetized heads w/ a professional demagnetizer -All trimmers and volumes of the heads were tuned. -High-quality paired NOS tubes-Potentiometers were cleaned -Replacement of electrolytic capacitors in the amplification and pre-amplification. New tape specifically for the Dynacord model.
