Mini-JV880 + MiniDexed — 2-in-1 Hardware Sound Module (JV-Style ROMpler + 6-Operator FM Synthesizer)

Hand-built dual-engine sound module based on Raspberry Pi, combining two classic synthesis architectures in one compact unit: a JV-80/880-compatible ROMpler and a 6-operator FM synthesizer running the open-source MiniDexed firmware. Mode switching is done by swapping the onboard memory card — one engine at a time, not simultaneous.

Mini-JV880 mode — JV-Style ROMpler

Insert the JV-style memory card and the unit operates as a fully functional ROMpler in the spirit of the classic JV-80 / JV-880 sound module. Sample playback, parameters, and architecture are faithful to the original hardware. Control layout follows the rack-mount version, with all front-panel buttons active: PREV, DATA, UTIL, PATCH, SYS, EDIT, TONE, ENT.

All sound parameters and onboard effects are fully editable. The complete classic patch set and performances are present in full quality. Firmware is actively maintained and updated.

Bank switching uses standard MIDI Bank Select messages. Most MIDI keyboards and controllers support this natively.

MiniDexed mode — 6-Operator FM Synthesizer

Insert the FM memory card and the unit becomes a hardware 6-operator FM synthesizer running the well-documented open-source MiniDexed project. Loads standard DX7-format SysEx banks, supports onboard effects (reverb, chorus), and offers patch editing via MIDI SysEx editors such as Dexed (free, open-source).
