General introduction and background:

Very cool “funk secret weapon”: Samick-made “Asco” SG-style guitar. The non-open book headstock tells us that it was made in the late 1970s rather than mid-1970s. Little to nothing is known about the “Asco” brand – it was never officially registered, and likely the trade brand of some German or Dutch retailer or distributor. This guitar has “fakebuckers” installed – very chimey and nice sounding singlecoils in humbucker-housings.

As always, the instrument has been serviced completely and is ready to be played immediately. But please read the description carefully!

Measurements, weight and other specs:

-Scale:  628 mm

-Nut: ca 4,15 cm

-Weight: 3,55 kg

-Pickups: two singlecoils in humbucker housings, measuring about 6,2k each. Normal 2x2 pot layout, 3 way toggle

-Body: plywood layers

-Neck:  soft V-shape, slim, probably mahogany, with a fingerboard of unknown wood that likely did get a dark stain. Slim but not skinny frets, 12’’ radius.

Condition:

-Body: Lots of dings and dongs and scratches (please look at the pictures)

-Neck: good condition, trussrod works smoothly. Frets at 7/10, bit of buzz but no serious deadnotes.  

-Head: good condition

-Hardware: signs of aging, but in fairly good condition.

-Electrics: works

-Originality: non original tuners (originals were bars as well); non-original trem arm; non-original bridge (looks like original)

Sound and Playability:

-Playability and string action: it has a very low string action and is easy to play.

-Sound: Please check out the video for a sound demo. A spanky, dry tone that is ideal for funk and rhythm chime. You can install normal humbuckers without irreversible surgery if you like.

Repairs, Service:

As always, the instrument has been serviced completely and is ready to be played immediately.

-Completely cleaned

-Frets polished, fretboard cleaned and oiled

-Electronics cleaned and serviced

-New tuners, trem arm and bridge installed and set up

-Neck set straight

-Pro setup of neck, string action, pickup height and intonation

-New 10 gauge all nickel Pyramid strings put on – play it in!

Auxiliary stuff:

-No case or gigbag included at this price level. The item will be wrapped well, and put into a sturdy cardboard box with lots of filler material. If you need a case, a 4/4 classical guitar case will fit well. I can buy one at your cost for the shipping, just let me know.

AFTER DELIVERY: After receiving the item, please inspect the package for obvious damages and make photos if there are any. After unpacking, check the item immediately for damages or other undocumented flaws. I accept a 14 days return and will pay for shipping if the item is in a different condition than described upon arrival. Please note that I will only take the item back entirely, but not grant any reduction of price and generally only accept returns if the item was unaltered after arrival.

CITES protection: all of the items I sell have been legally imported to the EU before January 1st 2017 and are registered with the authorities in Hamburg, Germany (if applicable).
