Gibson Les Paul Standard electric guitars with sunburst finish from the late 50s and early 60s are among the most sought-after instruments in the world. And due to the limited number, they are also astronomically expensive. Fortunately, there is the Gibson Custom Shop and materials, such as the now iconic publication by Yasuhiko Iwanade “The Beauty of the ’Burst: Gibson Sunburst Les Pauls from ’58 to ’60”, where individual models are described in detail.
The 1959 Les Paul Standard BOTB 74 VOS is an authentic Gibson Custom Shop replica of the Les Paul model shown in the aforementioned book on page 74. From the gorgeous sunburst finish on the AAA quality maple top, the stained mahogany body to the period neck profile, pickups and even the finest hardware details - this instrument is almost a visual clone of the guitar shown in The Beauty of the ’Burst. The hallmark of authenticity and the authentic look and feel of the originals is provided by the special VOS (Vintage Original Spec) finish.
