From Ukulele.org: "The Rutan company of Kansas City, Mo.... was named for the owner, John Rutan, who went into the ukulele business in 1926 (after being a partner running a retail music store). Their factory was eventually destroyed by a fire, I believe in the 1930s but I'm not exactly sure on that. Rutan made very nice quality instruments - very much in the style of Martin instruments. I would guess they patterned their instruments directly after Martins. While other manufacturers sometimes claimed to be as good as a Martin - Rutan ukuleles actually came quite close. Your ukulele is patterned after a Martin Style 2.
A note about the quality of this brand from renowned luthier Jake Wildwood who on his blog wrote: "Let's get one thing straight: except for the headstock, wooden rosette, and slightly different fretboard end shape... this would be indistinguishable from a Martin-made instrument. I've seen these before with a couple different brand names: both of which I can't recall at the moment. They've always struck me as ukes of the very highest quality (ie, Martins). The thickness, brace shaping, neck style, etc. is all comparable."

Condition issues:
On the back, there are two tiny repaired cracks, these are shown in the last two pictures.
There are three areas of finish damage, from what I have no idea. One is located on the back and is very evident from the pictures. One is on the very bottom of the side and one on the center treble side.
The action as previously mentioned is quite high and needs to be addressed to get this beauty in tip top playing condition.
Case condition: good with some chipping to edges and ribbon that keeps lid erect has eroded, and leather handle is dry but intact.
