Up for sale is a vintage Suzuki MD-4 bowl back mandolin made in Nagoya, Japan.
We just cleaned, restrung, and professionally set the instrument up here at the shop. It plays nicely with comfortable action and has the bright, chiming voice that makes bowl back mandolins so enjoyable for folk, classical, and traditional music.
The MD-4 features a spruce top, bowl-back construction, decorative wood guards, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship from Suzuki's Nagoya workshop. These vintage Japanese mandolins have developed a loyal following for their quality construction and surprisingly rich tone.
Condition is good overall with normal cosmetic wear consistent with age and use, including scratches, finish wear, edge wear, and handling marks throughout. One of the decorative wooden guards on the lower bout has a crack present, which can be seen in the photos. The crack appears limited to the guard itself and does not affect the structural integrity or playability of the instrument.
Overall, this is a nice vintage Japanese mandolin that plays well, sounds great, and is ready for its next owner.
