For sale is my 2017 Gibson Memphis ES-339 in Sunset Burst, with block inlays, the original Gibson hardshell case, and Memphis COA.
This is a fantastic-playing Memphis-built ES-339. It is set up nicely with comfortable low action, the pickups sound great, and the guitar has that airy, woody, open Gibson semi-hollow character in a more compact body size. Can definitely get a 'growl' from a good 339 as well. Plugged in, the similarity in tone to a good ES-335 honestly impressed me. It has plenty of that classic ES-style thing going on, but with a slightly tighter and more focused response.
The Sunset Burst finish is beautiful in person and has a really cool, moody look that I associate with this Memphis era. It almost has a VOS-like character to it (in my opinion), with warm reddish-brown hues and a classic Gibson look without feeling overly glossy or sterile.
The guitar is in very good used condition with honest playwear. It was clearly played and enjoyed by the original owner before me, and there are surface scratches and normal signs of use, pickguard marks, etc. throughout. Most notable would be scratches and checking on the treble side horn (pictured). Most can be buffed out if desired, in my opinion. That said: no headstock break, no repairs, and no functional problems. Electronics function properly. It plays well, sounds excellent, and is ready to go.
This would make an amazing gigging or touring semi-hollow. It is ergonomic, resonant, dependable, and very easy to play. I could absolutely see this being someone’s main working guitar.
I am mainly selling because I have several ES-335 and 335-style guitars, and I’ve realized I personally prefer the ergonomics of the fuller-bodied ES models. I’m tall and long-limbed enough that the larger 335 body just feels like home to me, and that tends to be what I reach for (it's also what I "came up" on). That said, this is the best of the 3 ES-339s I have owned over the past handful of years, and it is tough to pull myself away from this one. Someone is going to get an excellent player here at a good price.
Similar 2017 Sunset Burst ES-339 examples have been listed by dealers at substantially higher asking prices, but I’m pricing this one realistically due to the honest cosmetic playwear and because I’d like a clean, straightforward sale.
Includes the original Gibson hardshell case which in great shape and the Memphis COA (pictured).
An excellent late Memphis-era Gibson ES-339 with the right case and COA, priced fairly for a clean sale.
