- Working to specifications - Tested against two other D160's which all sounded the same!
- Natural sound with excellent tonality
- Preferred choice over the 635A
You are looking at a vintage AKG D160E1 that is in excellent shape besides some minor wear to the body! This is AKG's improved version of their D160 and is functionally perfect. The AKG D160 which was used by Beatles among others so it was certainly a microphone that was made for professionals. While the 635A is a fan favorite, I greatly prefer the D160 on many applications such as voice!
The AKG D160E1 sounds very good and does not struggle with excessive bass if used close to a singer and captures a room well. If you have been looking for a microphone that is a sleeper, this would be it!
From AKG's advertisement:
The ideal "ambience" and round-table microphone.
AKG's philosophy of acoustical excellence joined with versatility of application is embodied in the D-160E1 omnidirectional dynamic microphone. An improved version of a long popular model, the D-160E1 features extended high and low-frequency response, with a subtle presence rise between 3 kHz and 12 kHz. As such, the D-160E1 makes an excellent recording microphone, especially when accentuating the acoustical ambience of the location, is desirable.
