VIDEO! 1970s Japan Sakai (Teisco-ish) "Hertiecaster" guitar - pro Setup, player ready

Intro:

This is it - the infamous "Hertiecaster" of legend!

Made by Sakai Mokko in the early 1970s. This is from a series of models imported to Germany in the very late 1960s to early 1970s, and famously sold at mall chain Hertie (hence nick-named the “Hertiecaster”), but also other stores. This guitar is often referred to as “Teisco”, and while it has certain similarities to previous Kawai/Teisco-made guitars, it is not made by Teisco. Teisco went out of business in 1967 and was bought by Kawai. The Teisco brand was still used for some time, albeit the guitars were not made by Teisco anymore. Sakai Mokko took over the delivery of cheap guitars to Western markets in the late 1960s. This model has also been spotted with “Sakai” as badge on the headstock.

This guitar is the most famous one, it features four singlecoil pickups and the “German carve” in the body.

as always, this guitar is fully restored, complete with a pro setup and is immediately playable!

Measurements, weight and other specs:

-Scale: 628 mm

-Nut: 41,5 mm

-Pickups: four nice and chimey single coils, 1 master volume, 1 master tone, one “rhythm” switch, measuring each around 6,8k

-Weight: 3,2 kg

-Body: laminated wood layers

-Neck: solid maple, rosewood fingerboard, 7,25’’ radius, vintage frets (low and narrow)

Condition:

-Body: Very good condition with minor wear and tear; harmless tiny lacquer fissure in the neck pocket.

-Neck/Head: straight neck, good frets (8/10), with some minor crevasses, no buzz. Sadly someone has written "Fender" on the headstock, which I was able to just wipe off with a cleaner, but the shape is visible due the aging colour of the surrounding wood (see pic).

-Electronics: all functional

-Hardware: fully functional;

-Originality: all original

Sound and Playability:

-Playability and string action: The guitar plays easily with a string action of 1,5 mm at the 12th fret. Slim C neck, no side dots.

-Sound: warm vintage singlecoil goodness. Ideal for rhythm guitar in a garage, indie pop or drone scenario. Please check out the video of a demo of this kind of guitar.
