Here for sale we have an Ovation Collector's Edition 1990 Electro Acoustic Guitar in Nutmeg Stain finish. Made in the USA in 1990, this guitar consists of a Super Shallow Lyrachord body with a Birdseye Maple top, a 5-piece Maple/Mahogany neck, and a 24-fret Ebony fingerboard. Other appointments include a set of Schaller tuners, a Walnut bridge, a custom 5-piece Epaulets rosette, and an Ovation OP24 preamp and piezo pickup system. This preamp sports controls for volume, treble, mids, and bass.

The Collector's Series was created to release one premium model a year after the first Collector's Edition in 1982. These guitars would vary every year in finish, style, and model. The 1990 Collector's Edition is based on an Ovation Elite model with premium features such as the Birdseye Maple top, Maple inlays, and Gold tuners.  

The 5-piece Maple neck sits comfortably in the hand, with the ‘V’ profile filling the hand without being at all cumbersome and offering an ergonomic playing experience up and down the neck. The Medium frets also enhance chordal playing as well as making articulate melodic playing more practical providing effortless navigation of the entire 12” radius. The cutaway design offers excellent access to the upper register whilst the Super Shallow back design offers a guitar that feels sturdy and reliable.

The voice of this Collector's Edition 199S-7 is dynamic and smooth, with the Birdseye Maple top providing a balanced, seasoned tone with plenty of low end power and warm detail. The Lyrachord back adds a snappy, high end tonality to the guitar which compliments the Spruce top well. The preamp system does a great job of interpreting the natural tone of the guitar, whilst the easy to use controls provide the player with comprehensive control of the amplified tone, perfect for a gigging musician.

Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall very good condition, the front face demonstrates very light scratching visible only under direct lighting at certain angles. The top edge demonstrates a moderate indentation chipping the finish to the bass side corner. Further consistent light indentation is apparent to the top edge,

Neck: Overall very good condition, the rear of the neck demonstrates a moderate indentation to the treble side between the 5th and 6th fret. These can be felt beneath the finger. The binding demonstrates hairline cracking on the bass side stemming from the side dots.

Body: Overall very good condition, the front face demonstrates light scratching visible only under direct lighting at certain angles. The sides and rear demonstrate some scuffing and scratching consistent with an instrument of this age.

Condition of Frets:

The frets demonstrate notable signs of use, with mild indentation in the early register and flattening of the frets throughout. There is a small amount of material remaining for future fret work.

Current Set Up:

Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (3/16" hex) not included.

Hardware: Fully functional with light signs of wear.

Structural: No concerns or issues to note. A very small gap is visible between neck heel and body, however this is typical for ovation guitars.

Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.75mm - Bass 2.5mm

Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height.

Strings on Guitar - 11-52

There is a very small amount of room remaining in the saddle for future adjustments.

Electrics: Fully functional. Slight crackle to the sliders when adjusted. n
