The Poly Blue Octave provides high-performance pitch shifting, fuzz, and modulation in a compact, rugged case with True Bypass switching. It features four separate octave sections (one octave down, two octaves down, one octave up, two octaves up), and you can set the level of each in the mix separately. Each section is polyphonic by default, meaning it adapts perfectly to both chords and single notes. You can adjust the level of the dry signal separately, choosing the right blend between it and the processed signal. The Mono switch lets you get monophonic, analog pitch shifter sounds. In this mode, the lower octaves have the warm sound typical of pedals like the MXR Vintage Bass Octave, while the upper octaves lean towards the Octavio Fuzz sound when the fuzz intensity is set to minimum.
The Poly Blue Octave features wild fuzz inspired by the classic MXR Blue Box? Fuzz. Applied to all five signals (the four octave sections and the dry signal), the fuzz volume can be adjusted using the Dry knob while holding the Fuzz button. Used in the lower octaves, the fuzz will have a dark and massive tone, while in the higher octaves it will reach a synth-like sound. Using both the high and low octaves with the fuzz will give you a huge and dense sound. If all this is not enough, add modulation: in polyphonic mode you will get a simulation of the famous Leslie, while in monophonic mode it provides an effect similar to the modulation of the Phase 90. Like the fuzz, the modulation is applied to all five active signals. The Mod knob adjusts the "rate" of the effect; you can also turn off the modulation by turning this knob all the way down.
Via the EXP jack, the Poly Blue Octave lets you control various settings by connecting an expression pedal or tempo switch, for example switching between controlling a knob to change settings, or to activate or deactivate the Fuzz and Mono modes.
MXR M306 POLY BLUE OCTAVE POWER SUPPLY
The MXR M306 Poly Blue Octave requires 265 mA and can be powered by the included Dunlop ECB003 9-volt adapter or a Brick? series power supply. It cannot be battery powered.
MXR M306 POLY BLUE OCTAVE CONTROLS
Dry: Adjusts the dry signal level;
Sub-1: Adjusts the signal level one octave down;
Sub-2: Adjusts the signal level two octaves down;
Oct+1: Adjusts the signal level one octave up;
Oct+2: Adjusts the signal level two octaves up;
Mod: In polyphonic mode, adjusts the speed of the Leslie simulator; in mono mode (red LED on), adjusts the speed of the phase shifter;
Fuzz: Pressing this button causes the LED to glow blue, providing a Blue Box-style fuzz; holding it down the LED will flash and turning the Dry knob will set the fuzz volume; press it again to save the volume setting;
Mono: pressing this button will turn it red and the pedal will work in Mono mode; in this mode the two lower octaves will sound like a vintage Octaver and are monophonic; the two upper octaves will sound like an Octavio pedal with the fuzz level at minimum.
EXP jack: connecting an expression pedal with a TRS cable will allow you to control all 6 knobs and the two mode buttons: adjust the settings with the expression pedal's rocker switch down and up, thus setting the minimum and maximum level; moving the pedal will move within the range you have set. Connecting an MXR tap switch with a mono cable instead allows you to activate and deactivate the fuzz mode or the Mono mode: press the tap switch once to activate and deactivate the fuzz, twice to activate and deactivate the Mono mode;
Software Version: To check the software version, set all knobs to maximum, then hold the switch for ten seconds: the Mono mode LED will flash a number of times that corresponds to the software version. The Fuzz mode LED will flash blue for major updates, red for minor ones (for example, if the version is 3.2, the blue LED will flash 3 times and the red LED will flash twice).
