EHX has transplanted technology found in keyboard and modular synthesizers into a pedal designed for guitarists and bassists. While the modulation of a typical envelope filter is controlled by the attack of the guitar, the Blurst's filter is modulated by an internal low frequency oscillator (LFO), similar to a tremolo or phaser. When you add an expression pedal or voltage control (CV) source to the Blurst, you gain even more control over the LFO or filter itself. The Blurst's all-analog signal path contains a variable-resonance, fourth-order low-pass filter. The basic modulation is controllable via an internal variable LFO with a choice of three waveforms. Modulation (including the LFO itself) is digitally controlled, allowing for tap tempo (with three division options) and expression pedal control of three selectable parameters of your choice. These features greatly increase the variety of filtered sounds you can generate with the Blurst.

Analog low-pass filter with adjustable resonance

Three modulation waveforms: Triangle, rising and falling sawtooth

Rate Modulation is set with the rate knob or by combining foot tap and tap divide to obtain triplets, dotted octaves or quadruplets

Three modes EXP, Range, Rate and Filter controlled by an expression pedal or a voltage-controlled source such as the EHX 8 Step Program

Range knob sets the frequency range of the filter modulation, Blend adjusts the dry / filtered signal mix
