Trace Elliot V-Type V4 220W Tube Bass Amp Head 1996

Trace Elliot V-Type all-tube bass head. These were later renamed as the V4, after the larger V6 and V8 came out. This is a transition version, as it has the rat fur covering but doesn't have the V4 front logo and silver knobs. Make in the UK. Internal label dates it from Jan. 19, 1996.

220W RMS, 440W peak. 4 and 8 ohm switchable output.

Four 12AX7s, four KT88s.

Weighs about 48 lbs. Way less than an SVT!

These things cost thousands of dollars when they were new and were meant to compete with SVTs and Mesa/Boogie 400+ heads.

This one has a bit of provenance, if you care about that sort of thing. I don't have any official documentation, but it was previously owned by a multi-platinum rock band from York, PA that had a bunch of hits in the '90s. I believe I'm the second owner. I can provide more details if you're interested.

Sounds amazing. People rave about these things. Go read the long talkbass thread about these and you'll see. Stays clean until the gain gets to about 3 o'clock and then it can get some preamp tube grind.

Cosmetically, this one is about a 9.5/10, which is surprising considering that it's almost 30 years old. The green rat fur covering is in fantastic shape.

Loaded with original Trace Elliot-branded tubes that still test strong. Just had a full service checkup where it was cleaned inside and out, a couple out-of-spec resistors were replaced, and the bias was adjusted.
