Vintage Antique Hawaiian Ukulele Collection - 34 Ukes!

We have the rare opportunity to offer a fantastic collection of 34 vintage Hawaiian ukuleles from some of the finest ukulele builders in history! These range mainly from the late 1890s to the 1930s. Some are in playable condition, most are in collectable condition and not currently functioning. Included with the collection is 14 period correct vintage soprano sized cases and one larger case. Sold as entire collection only. Detailed descriptions are below.

-Kamaka Pineapple:
A blue label pineapple with a lovely hand painted pineapple pattern on the back, no rosette around sound hole. Metal tuning pegs (one mismatch), two cracks between bridge and bottom. Headstock decal and interior label both blue and feature a pineapple,
-Kaai Soprano:
Headstock decal “Aloha Hawaii Paradise of the Pacific”. Interior label with details of Kaai company. Light finish highlights the subtly figured koa on front, with darker finish on sides and back. Inlay along length of the fretboard which matches rosette and inlay out around front. No cracks but some evidence of repairs to joint between front and sides.
-Kamaka Pineapple:
A white label pineapple with a blue headstock decal. Wooden tuning pegs. Repaired crack off right edge of bridge runs from bottom about 2/3 of way up front. Otherwise in very good shape with rosette and circumference inlays. Position markers at frets 5, 7, and 10.
-Kamaka Pineapple:
A blue label pineapple with a large pineapple decal under the soundhole and a partial decal remaining on the headstock. Wooden tuning pegs. Evidence of repair between front and side in one spot. No inlays.
-Sam F. Chang:
Aloha Hawaii decal on headstock, Sam F. Chang decal on back of headstock. Metal tuning pegs. Tri-colour single inlay around soundhole. Wear marks at fret positions 1 and 2. Marked Gladys on back of headstock. Cracks off both ends of bridge and a tight crack on rear.
-Kamaka Pineapple:
A white label pineapple with a blue headstock decal and a large pineapple decal under the soundhole. Metal tuning pegs. Matching inlay around soundhole and perimeter of instrument. Tight crack from near right side of bridge to bottom. Position markers at frets 5, 7, and 10.
-Kamaka Pineapple:
A white label pineapple with a partial pineapple decal remaining on headstock. Wooden tuning pegs. No inlays
-Akai Soprano:
“Tabu Made in Hawaii” marked inside body, Aloha Hawaii decal on headstock. Wooden turning pegs. Simple three ring inlay around soundhole.
-Ka-lai Pineapple:
A white label pineapple with a Ka’lai decal on the headstock. Metal tuning pegs. No inlays or other decorations. Possibly OEM’ed by Kamaka?
-Paul F Summers Soprano:
Paul F Summer metal plate and Hawaii decal on headstock. Tabu eched on rear of headstock. Paul F Summers label inside body. Simple three ring inlay around soundhole.
-Waikiki Uke Soprano:
Wakiki Uke decal featuring pineapple on headstock. Likely made for tourist market of mahogany ply rather than koa. Possibly rosewood fretboard and bridge. Metal tuning pegs. Single ring of inlay around soundhole. Position markers at frets 5, 7, and 10.
-Ka-lae Soprano:
Ka-lae decal featuring pineapple on headstock. Likely made for tourist market of mahogany ply rather than koa. Metal tuning pegs. Unusual ring of inlay immediately around soundhole. Position markers at frets 5, 7, and 10.
-Kumalae Soprano:
Kumalae PPIE Gold Award 1915 decal on headstock. Wooden tuning pegs. Slightly more complex three ring inlay around soundhole and around body but not up fretboard.
-Kumalae Soprano:
Kumalae PPIE Gold Award 1915 decal on headstock. Wooden tuning pegs. Simple three ring inlay around soundhole.
-Kumalae Soprano:
Kumalae PPIE Gold Award 1915 decal on headstock. Wooden tuning pegs. Simple three ring inlay around soundhole. (14 and 15 are very similar)
-Sam F. Chang:
Aloha Hawaii decal on headstock, Sam F. Chang decal on back of headstock. Metal tuning pegs. Tri-colour single inlay around soundhole. Cracks off both ends of bridge. Finger wear on frets 1 and 2.
-Kumalae Soprano:
Kumalae PPIE Gold Award 1915 decal on headstock with Jonah Kumalae label inside. Wooden tuning pegs. Simple single ring inlay around soundhole.
-Kumalae Soprano:
No headstock decal, inside label Ukulele o Hawaii Jonah Kumalae. Wooden tuning pegs. Slightly more complex three ring inlay around soundhole and around body but not up fretboard.
-Echo or Pele Soprano:
Headstock decal says Pele Hawaii but inside label says Echo. Metal tuning pegs. Slightly more complex three ring inlay around soundhole and around body and up middle of fretboard.
-Unknown Soprano:
Headstock decal Hawaii, Engraved inside with Made in Hawaii of Genuine Koa but further details obscured. Wooden tuning pegs. Simple three ring inlay around soundhole. Crack emanating from right side of bridge to bottom and up close to soundhole.
-Bergstom’s Soprano:
Headstock decal Hawaii, Bergstrom’s Honolulu TH (Territory of Hawaii pre US statehood) on rear of headstock. Metal tuning pegs. Bridge detached but with instrument. Simple three ring inlay around soundhole. Lovely koa.
-Royal Hawaiian Soprano:
Headstock decal Royal Hawaiian Hawaii. Inside label Royal Hawaiian. Wooden tuning pegs. Slightly more complex three ring inlay around soundhole and around body and up both sides of fretboard. Position markers at frets 5, 7, and 10. Crack from middle of bridge to bottom.
-Royal Hawaiian Soprano:
Headstock decal Royal Hawaiian Brand Made in Hawaii. Inside label Royal Hawaiian. Metal tuning pegs. Simple three ring inlay around soundhole. Finger wear on frets 1 and 2.
-Sam F. Chang:
Aloha Hawaii decal on headstock, Sam F. Chang decal on back of headstock. Metal tuning pegs. Tri-colour single inlay around soundhole. Cracks off both ends of bridge.
-Unknown Soprano:
No decal on headstock or interior label. Engraved Tabu on rear of headstock. Wooden tuning pegs. Probably the most detailed inlay of all the ukes, with slightly more complex three ring inlay around soundhole and around body and up middle and outsides of fretboard.
-Leonardo Nunes Taropatch (8 string):
No decal on headstock, inside label reads Ukulele O Hawaii Made By Leonardo Nunes (rest of label is obscured) Probably restored/refinished at some point. Bridge possibly ebony. Tight cracks from both sides of bridge towards bottom. Slightly more complex three ring inlay around soundhole and around body but not up fretboard. Wooden tuning pegs. Beautiful flame koa front and back. Position markers at frets 5, 7, possibly mother of pearl. A wonderful player. (Leonardo Nunes was the son of Manuel Nunes, largely credited as the inventor of the Ukulele)
-Leonardo Nunes Soprano:
Ukulele O Hawaii Leonardo Nunes decal on headstock. Inside label is present but unreadable. Wooden tuning pegs. Tight crack from bridge towards bottom. Position markers at frets 5, 7. Simple three ring inlay around soundhole.
-Manuel Nunes Soprano:
M. Nunes Inventor 1879 Hawaii decal on headstock. Inside label Southern California Music Company M Nunes and Sons with company information. Plastic/Ivory tuning pegs. Bridge likely reglued, body dirty. Simple three ring inlay around soundhole. Cracks from middle and right of bridge to bottom. Manuel Nunes is a Portuguese who moved to Hawaii and is often credited as the inventor of the Ukulele.
-Manuel Nunes Soprano:
No decal on headstock. Inside label Southern California Music Company M Nunes and Sons with company information. Wooden tuning pegs that show uneven wear. Slightly more complex three ring inlay around soundhole and around body but not up fretboard. Lovely flamed koa pattern on front of body. Crack from left of bridge from bottom of instrument to soundhole. Manuel Nunes is a Portuguese who moved to Hawaii and is often credited as the inventor of the Ukulele.
-Manuel Nunes Soprano:
No decal on headstock. Inside label M Nunes and Sons Inventor of the Ukulele with company information. Metal tuning pegs. Slightly more complex three ring inlay around soundhole. Lovely flamed koa pattern on front of body. Tight crack on back. Manuel Nunes is a Portuguese who moved to Hawaii and is often credited as the inventor of the Ukulele.
-Ernest K. Kaai Soprano:
Ernest K. Kaai decal on headstock, Tabu etching on inside. Wooden tuning pegs. Simple three ring inlay around soundhole.
-Leonardo Nunes Soprano:
Ukulele O Hawaii Leonardo Nunes decal on headstock. Wooden tuning pegs. Simple three ring inlay around soundhole. (Leonardo Nunes was the son of Manuel Nunes, the inventor of the Ukulele)
-Makini Soprano:
Makini Hawaii decal on headstock. Wooden tuning pegs, one peg broken but piece is with instrument. Modern (wider) shape, single white inlay around soundhole. A good player.
-Unknown Soprano:
Unkown tourist style ukulele, likely from the 1930s or 40s
