Popular 1966 Jazz Bass with neck binding and block inlays.
The Jazz Bass has remained a standard for bassists worldwide, largely unchanged in style for over 60 years since its 1960 debut. 1966, right after CBS acquired Fender in 1965, was a "transitional" year of rapid spec changes and is highly sought after on the vintage market.
This example has late-1966 specs: paddle pegs, neck binding, and block position markers. Neck date "7OCT66A" (1966), pot date "304-64" (1964). The neck pickup has a black bobbin and the bridge pickup a gray bobbin — such mixing is not unusual for this parts-transition period. Pickup dates are illegible, but judging from the solder, both are considered original. The bridge has been replaced with a recent one and the body has been refinished.
The sound is notable for its strong low-string attack. 1966 Jazz Basses are generally considered to have a more modern sound among '60s examples, and this one has a particularly aggressive tone. Highly recommended for bassists looking for a lifelong instrument they can rely on at gigs.
