This MPC1000 is the BK-N model, which features the newer one-piece pad sensor that eliminates the common pad failure issue found in earlier units.

Many blue MPC1000s are equipped with the old-style pad sensors, and even some black (BK) units were shipped with them. Since the pad type cannot be identified from the outside, buyers often don't know which version they are getting. The old-style pads eventually fail and require replacement, but this unit already has the improved pad sensor installed.
