Up for sale is a fascinating and highly resonant 1963 Gibson Melody Maker D (Dual Pickup) with an incredible historical pedigree. This guitar features a 100% original 1963 body, finish, and electronics, paired with a  Gibson Factory Reneck dating between 1965 and 1969.

The Historical Context (The Factory Reneck):
In 1963, all Gibson Melody Makers were manufactured with the wide 1 11/16" nut width without exception. However, this guitar features the fast and highly comfortable narrow 40mm nut width on a true Full-Scale (24.75") neck. This unique configuration is explained by a period-correct, official Gibson Factory Replacement Neck done in Kalamazoo post-1965. The headstock features the iconic "Big Numbers" serial stamp, which was Gibson’s official internal practice for factory renecks from the mid-1950s until the late 1960s. The neck joint is flawless, rock-solid, and done to original factory standards of the late 1960s.

Key Specifications & Features:

  • No Post-Factory Breaks: Aside from the official Gibson factory neck replacement, there are absolutely no cracks, breaks, or amateur structural repairs.
  • Full-Scale Playability: Authentic Gibson 24.75" scale length for perfect string tension and classic feel.
  • Rare 40mm Nut Width: Super sleek, fast late-60s neck profile that plays effortlessly.
  • 100% Original 1963 Electronics: Both pickups, the pots, and the wiring harness are completely untouched and original to the 1963 body, delivering that pure Golden-Era vintage bite.
  • Original Frets: The factory frets on this late-60s replacement neck are in great shape with plenty of life left.
  • Original Case: Comes with its rare, original 1963 Gibson "Alligator" cardboard/chipboard hard shell case.

The guitar displays beautiful natural finish checking, honest vintage play wear, and small dings consistent with its age, giving it a stunning mojo. It is a fantastic opportunity to own a Golden-Era Gibson with a unique, factory-documented history that plays better than most.
