BEHRINGER EDGE PATCH BOOK - 500 ORIGINAL SOUNDS & SEQUENCES

By TSL Studio | 539-Page Digital PDF | Made in Greece

UNLOCK THE FULL POTENTIAL OF YOUR BEHRINGER EDGE!

Explore the creative possibilities of the Behringer EDGE analog semi-modular percussion synthesizer with the EDGE Patch Book by TSL Studio - a comprehensive digital guide featuring 500 original sounds and eight-step sequences created specifically for the EDGE.

From powerful analog kicks and deep sub-basses to snares, claps, metallic percussion, evolving drum loops, bass sequences, melodic patterns, sci-fi effects, random rhythms and experimental feedback sounds, this collection takes you through a wide range of possibilities offered by the EDGE.

This is more than a collection of suggested knob positions. Each patch includes a detailed panel diagram, numerical control settings, an eight-step sequence chart, sound descriptions and three practical playing tips. Many patches also explore the instrument's patchbay for additional modulation, clocking, triggering and sound-design techniques.

Every patch is a sound and an eight-step pattern. Explore the settings, play the patterns, adjust the accents and develop your own rhythmic ideas for electronic music, studio production and live performance.

235 PATCHES THAT USE THE PATCH BAY

One of the most valuable features of this book is its dedicated exploration of the EDGE's semi-modular architecture.

235 of the 500 patches use patch cables, allowing you to experiment with modulation, clocking, triggering and alternative signal routing.

The book shows the intended cable connections in colour and lists the connections from output to input, together with explanations of what they do.

Explore techniques such as:

  • Oscillator-to-oscillator frequency modulation.
  • Hard sync and metallic sound creation.
  • Envelope routing and cross-modulation.
  • Sequencer pitch and velocity controlling other parameters.
  • Filter cutoff modulation using external patchbay signals.
  • Clocking the sequencer from another signal.
  • Triggering envelopes and creating rhythmic repetitions.
  • Controlling tempo and decay with sequencer voltages.
  • External audio routing and experimental feedback.

The dedicated Patch Bay: Modulation and Patch Bay: Clock & Trigger chapters provide a structured way to explore these connections, while the Drones & Feedback chapter pushes the instrument into more experimental territory.

DETAILED SETTINGS FOR EVERY PATCH

Each patch page is designed to make the intended sound and sequence clear and practical to recreate.

Every patch includes:

  • A detailed EDGE panel diagram with coloured markers showing the intended control positions.
  • Numerical values for every control, using the instrument's 0–10 scales where applicable.
  • Oscillator settings, including frequency, waveform, envelope depth and level.
  • Filter and noise settings, including filter type, cutoff, resonance and envelope modulation.
  • Output settings, including VCA mode, decay and volume.
  • Sequencer settings, including tempo, clock source and note-value scale.
  • An eight-step sequence chart showing pitch and velocity for every step.
  • Envelope sketches showing the pitch, filter and amplifier envelope behavior.
  • A filter-response illustration to help visualize the intended tonal character.
  • Patchbay cable diagrams and connection instructions whenever cables are used.
  • A sound description explaining the character and operation of the patch.
  • Three practical playing tips to help you adjust, perform and explore the sound.
  • A notes area for your own variations and experiments.

The diagrams distinguish between the standard 0–10 controls and centre-zero controls, which are shown with signed values. Sequencer pitch and velocity are documented step by step, so you can see how a pattern changes across its eight steps.

UNDERSTAND THE EDGE'S EIGHT-STEP SEQUENCER

The EDGE has one analog voice, and its sequencer provides an important part of the instrument's character.

Each step has its own PITCH and VELOCITY settings. Pitch changes the oscillator frequency for that step, while velocity affects the three envelopes and therefore influences the amplitude, pitch movement and filter response.

A velocity setting of zero creates a rest. Higher and lower values can be used to create accents and vary the length and brightness of individual hits.

The book uses these capabilities to create everything from straightforward kick patterns to more complex drum loops, bass sequences, melodic patterns and experimental rhythms.
