The Suonobuono Polyvera (Silver edition) is a hybrid polyphonic wavetable synthesizer and sampler that blends the gritty charm of vintage digital technology with the warmth of modern analog sound. Described by its maker as "a modern homage to the iconic wavetable synths and samplers of the early 80s," the Polyvera warps time and space to provide a polyphonic sound-design platform that seamlessly blends 1980s digital sounds with powerful analog filters and versatile effects. Representing four years of research and development by the Swedish/Italian manufacturer SuonoBuono, its two vintage-inspired oscillators bring the sizzling sounds of digital artifacts to the modern studio, which you can then warm, sculpt, and fatten through a true multimode analog filter and overdrive. This is the silver edition, offering the same complete feature set as the black version.
Key elements of its design:
- Two Vintage-Inspired Oscillators Each voice hosts two digital oscillators, a sub-oscillator, noise generator, and ring modulator. Oscillator 1 hosts wavetables with a sub-oscillator, while Oscillator 2 can function as either a wavetable oscillator or a sampler. The oscillators recreate digital artefacts reminiscent of iconic wavetable synths and samplers, reverse-engineered from vintage devices by brands like Akai, PPG, Ensoniq, Roland, and E-MU — delivering high-quality modern sounds while evoking that gritty character.
- Onboard Sampling Oscillator 2's sampler offers an internal library plus actual sampling through the audio inputs, with lo-fi reproduction of '80s-style samples. You can load user wavetables and samples directly into the device or sample external sources, with editable loop points and sample styles, and route the sampler to the VCF, to Osc1's VCA, or to its own VCA and envelope.
- Eight-Mode Analog Filter The oscillators are routed through a resonant analog filter based on European replicas of the classic CEM 3320 chip, achieving eight different filter models via a variable-topology design — including low-pass, band-pass, and peak modes — with self-oscillation, drive, post-filter analog distortion, and frequency modulation for classic analog behaviors.
- Deep Modulation A classic architecture with analog VCF and VCA per voice is driven by three envelopes per voice (VCF, VCA, mod — with a loopable multimode mod envelope) and three independent LFOs, all routable through an 8-slot modulation matrix for complex, dynamic modulations.
- Dual Vintage-Flavored Effects Two serial effects sections deliver chorus, phaser, delay, and multiple reverb types — retaining a certain '80s vibe — and can even process incoming audio for sampling with effects.
- Sequencer, Arp & Voicing Modes A polyphonic step sequencer (up to 32–64 steps) supports per-step automation, joined by a classic arpeggiator. Voicing modes include polyphonic, monophonic, unison, binaural, and chord.
- Hands-On Desktop Interface In a compact, sleek desktop unit, Polyvera offers 36 potentiometers and encoders plus two OLED displays, inviting deep, immediate sound design, with MPE MIDI support and external audio inputs.
Reviewing the Polyvera, loopop's Ziv Eliraz described it as a modern homage to the iconic wavetable synths and samplers of the early 80s — designed to combine the characteristic digital artifacts of that era with true analog multimode filters for added warmth and versatility.
