A resonant low-pass gate with its own envelope generator, in 4HP. Add a harmonically rich oscillator and you have a complete voice — that's the whole idea behind it.

A low-pass gate imitates how an acoustic object behaves when struck: the initial transient is loud and full of harmonics, and as it dies away it loses both volume and brightness together. That's what separates an LPG from a plain VCA, and it's why struck-object sounds — gongs, metal, wood — come out convincingly.

Two ways to play it. The Ping input gives classic decay-only LPG behaviour, and it's velocity dependent: run your triggers through an attenuator or a VCA first and the dynamics come through, so repeated hits can vary in intensity rather than all landing identically. The Gate input drives a fuller ASR envelope with adjustable attack and release, which turns the same module into a straightforward envelope-plus-VCA when that's what the patch needs.

The filter slope switches between 6dB, 12dB and 0dB — the last one bypassing the filter so it behaves as a plain VCA, which is where the Buchla-style bongo sounds live. A manual button fires the envelope by hand for auditioning and performance. The envelope has its own output, so it can drive anything else in the rack while it's also controlling the gate here.

No vactrols: Noise Engineering built the envelope from a DRC network instead, which gives a much wider range of decay times than vactrol designs manage — roughly 200ms to 7 seconds — while keeping some of the temporal non-linearity that makes vactrol LPGs feel alive. The audio path uses an SSI2164.

Condition: excellent. Panel clean with no rack rash, both knobs and all jacks tight, slope switch and manual button working, LEDs functioning. Tested and working. Ships in the original box with ribbon cable and mounting screws.
