Selmer Jubilee Serie III Alto Saxophone
[Overview]
Selmer alto saxophone, Jubilee Serie III, engraved. Gold lacquer finish. Made in 2018. Accessories: Selmer hard case (an earlier, pre-Jubilee Serie III case), body plug.
[Condition]
Lacquer loss and discoloration on the engraved section of the bell and on some of the keys. Tiny dents on the side of the neck and the side of the U-bend, both corrected. Fully overhauled: all keys disassembled, bore cleaned, all pads replaced (genuine Chanu rivet-less metal resonators), plus new corks and felts.
[Features]
Since the 1980s, the Super Action 80 and then the Serie II carried the torch as Selmer's mainstay alto saxophones. Into that lineage, the Serie III introduced a genuinely different direction.
Following the soprano and tenor versions, the alto Serie III debuted in 1999. It was refined continuously over more than 20 years before production ended in October 2021.
Where the Serie II offers a weighty, substantial blowing feel, the Serie III is light and smooth. It speaks effortlessly with minimal breath, and its clearly-defined sound projects forward with ease. It's a character that holds its own not just in classical settings but in pop, fusion, and electric ensembles too.
The neck is designed slightly longer than the Serie II's, so the mouthpiece is typically pushed on about 3-5mm deeper. It also features a double C# mechanism that stabilizes the pitch of the open C# an octave up, giving it excellent overall pitch balance.
This particular horn stands out for its sparkling, brilliant sound. Despite its light blowing feel, the tone never gets vague - each note stays clearly defined. Pitch is stable too, letting you focus on playing rather than constantly correcting.
A lighter, more modern Selmer than the Serie II. This is a horn where you can fully enjoy the Serie III's characteristic ease of playing and shimmering sound.
