Dana Bourgeois, a renowned luthier known to those in the know for his work on Schonberg guitars, creates guitars that are both traditional and innovative, resulting in highly original instruments. This particular instrument is a Bourgeois mandolin, Style-F "M5F SB," and is the first of its kind to arrive in Japan in the highly anticipated sunburst color. The top is braced and voiced at Bourgeois in Maine, assembled at Eastman Guitars, and then returned to Bourgeois in Maine for finishing. It features a hand-carved Adirondack spruce top, European maple back and sides, and a European maple neck. All materials have undergone a torified finish called "aged tone," giving them a mature, well-played look. It has an ebony fingerboard, ivoroid binding, golden age satin nickel tuners, an original flowerpot inlay on the headstock, and a tailpiece by the highly acclaimed "Bill James." The Bourgeois logo is engraved on it, giving it a very sophisticated finish. The neck has a slim yet comfortable triangle shape, the fingerboard features a radiated finish with traditional thin frets, and a scooped end. It boasts a sunburst finish, a quintessential flat mandolin color. The torified wood provides excellent responsiveness, resulting in a crisp, dry, clear, and lively tone.
