The Yamaha FG-580 is one of the finest instruments produced by Nippon Gakki during the golden era of Japanese guitar manufacturing. Built in Japan as part of Yamaha’s prestigious FG series, it represents one of the company’s premium acoustic models of the 1970s.

Positioned above the FG-500, the FG-580 belonged to Yamaha’s Hand Crafted range and was one of the last premium models before the highly sought-after FG-1500 and FG-2000. Produced in relatively limited numbers, it has become increasingly desirable among collectors and musicians looking for the very best vintage Japanese acoustics.

Tone

The FG-580 is renowned for its exceptional projection, remarkable tonal balance and rich harmonic complexity.

Its solid spruce top delivers outstanding clarity and responsiveness, while the solid jacaranda back and matching jacaranda sides provide deep bass, shimmering highs and a wonderfully complex overtone content. The African mahogany neck contributes to the instrument’s warmth and sustain.

Produced in much smaller numbers than the popular FG-180 and FG-280, the FG-580 occupies a very special place within Yamaha’s vintage catalogue and is now considered one of the most desirable high-end FG models from the 1970s.
