This 1964 Alden “Harmony” H-45 was built by Harmony in Chicago and was sold at the time through Aldens, an American mail-order company and department store. The guitar features the distinctive Aldens logo on the headstock and is a fine example of the exceptional instruments Harmony built during this period. Lightweight, full of character, and with a surprisingly mature tone.
Thanks to its fully hollow body, the guitar is exceptionally resonant. The H-45 weighs just 2.2 kg. The Alden is equipped with an original “Hersey Bar” DeArmond single-coil pickup. Our luthier has adjusted the guitar and placed a shim under the pickup. This is the same type of pickup that was also used on the sought-after Harmony H-44 models. In terms of tone, this pickup delivers exactly what DeArmond pickups are known for: clear, direct, and dynamic, with a nice attack and a surprising amount of character. This guitar sounds excellent both clean and slightly overdriven.
The neck offers a comfortable playing experience with smooth action. The original frets are also still in good condition and show only normal signs of wear for an instrument of this age.
This H-45 is in good vintage condition. Over the years, the guitar has naturally accumulated various signs of wear, including scratches and other signs of normal use.
In short, a charming and increasingly rare 1966 Alden “Harmony” H-45. A vintage Harmony full of character, featuring the beloved DeArmond tone, excellent playability, and a unique look.
Comes with a gig bag.
