Up for sale is a highly sought-after original ESP The Eclipse Custom from 1987, finished in the iconic Pearl White (PW) color. This is the real Japanese-built ESP from the golden era of the late 1980s – not an LTD reissue.
Many guitar enthusiasts will immediately recognize this model as the guitar associated with Izzy Stradlin in the legendary Sweet Child O’ Mine video. The original ESP Eclipse from 1987 has become increasingly difficult to find, especially in this condition. Featuring the distinctive early Eclipse shape, neck-through construction, ebony fingerboard, Seymour Duncan humbuckers and the original ESP tremolo system, this is one of the most desirable vintage ESP models ever produced.

Original factory documentation from this era significantly enhances the collectability and provenance of the instrument.
Condition
The guitar is in excellent overall condition for its age and has been very well cared for.
Cosmetically, I could only find:
- One tiny, barely visible scratch on the back of the body above the tremolo backplate.
- A small chip/ding on the headstock (please see the original photos).
Apart from these minor signs of use, I have not found any other noteworthy damage.
The electronics work flawlessly and are in top condition. Frets, hardware and playability are exactly what you would expect from a premium Japanese ESP of this era.
Sound & Playability
This guitar is an absolute metal machine. Tight low end, aggressive yet articulate mids, outstanding sustain thanks to the neck-through construction, and the unmistakable feel of a high-end Japanese ESP from the golden age of shred, hard rock and metal.
Anyone familiar with vintage ESP instruments knows exactly what this guitar is. No need for exaggerated marketing – these original late-'80s Japanese ESPs are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially complete with their original documentation.
A rare opportunity to own one of the earliest and most collectible Eclipse models ever produced.
