The Gibson Firebird Platypus pays tribute to an exceptionally rare early 1965 transitional iteration of the esteemed Gibson Firebird, which featured a standard Reverse Firebird body in conjunction with the later ’65 Non-Reverse headstock design. Unlike the previous Reverse design, the Non-Reverse head featured a flat (just like a platypus bill), single-layer 6-a-side headstock with standard Grover Mini-Rotomatic tuners as opposed to the Banjo style found on earlier models. With its iconic Firebird pickguard and its duo of classic Firebird Mini Humbucking pickups packed with punch and bite, the Gibson Firebird Platypus oozes mojo and character and cuts through any mix with its powerful, chimey, vintage-voiced tone!
