Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a rarer & excellent sounding 1980's era Audio Technica ATM63 model dynamic cardioid microphone based on the Pro 6 series microphone that has very strong output and set at Low Z making this a good choice for singing and broadcasting purposes. It comes with a mic clip and original mic case. This is a high quality Audio Technica product an easily on par with any fine dynamic cardioid mic of that era and even of today. A very sleek and aggressive looking mic. Made in Japan and built to last.

Pic # 2 shows an old ad from 1980's with the ATM63. Apparently this model mic was used by the band Journey for sometime while they had toured.

Pic # 3 shows Steve Perry with the ATM63.

I'm not sure why Audio Technica changed the model number but I think the Pro 6 was was the final example of this fantastic and lesser known mic into the 1990's. It's been out of circulation for many years now so not too many people know of this gem.

These Japanese mics were some of the best made mics of that era. Excellent components and incredible quality control. Even Electro Voice had several of their models made in Japan back in the 1980's and 90's.

This ATM has an attractive dark black / grey paint scheme on an all metal body and is quite rugged. This mic has a bit of weight so it despite only being 6 inches long X 1 inch wide. The same overall dimensions as The Shure SM-57 model mic and arguably better sounding. Built like a tank.

I don't have a ton of experience with these Audio Technica mics but I can tell you the sound is quality and has a warm, smooth tone. Just very rich with a great frequency response. This mic will absolutely impress you. I replaced the inner pop filter which improves the sound characteristics and will be greatly appreciated. The mic has exceptional uni-directional characteristics as well picking up only what's directly in front of it due to it being a cardioid type. This was an expensive mic when originally sold.

As you can see there is typical lite wear on the painted finish of this mic. Free of any deep scratches, dents or fractures. Just small paint chips here and there. The front screen is metal and free of any odors or tarnish but there is subtle dents. The Audio Technica label shows no wear and completely legible. Please let the pictures be your guide.

The Audio Technica mic clip is included and grips this mic very well allowing you to even hang the mic upside down if needed. The mic clip shows no wear and will screw onto any stand you have.

The mic takes a standard XLR cable which is not included. I did clean the XLR pins on the mic as well ensuring a perfect signal once a cable is attached.

The original black vinyl mic pouch is also included. It shows virtually no wear, has a perfect working zipper and is well padded to keep the mic safe and snug.

A great package deal on a great vintage mic considering the asking price. You'll get many good decades out of this one.

Overall I would rate this mic an easy 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department though many would rate higher.

MICROPHONE STAND IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
