What is the AKG D190

• It’s a dynamic, cardioid-pattern microphone introduced in 1971.

🔊 Specs & Sound

• Frequency response: quoted around 30 Hz to 16,000 Hz.
• Impedance: ~ 280 ohms.
• Sensitivity: at 1 kHz about −73 dBv (≈ 0.23 mV/µbar).
• Max SPL (how loud you can push before distortion): around 128 dB SPL.

In terms of sound:

• It tends to be a bit darker / warmer than e.g. something like a Shure SM57, especially on the high end.
• Good for snare, toms, amps — effectively for “spot miking.” Not usually used as a top hi-hat cymbal mic, etc., unless you don’t mind less shimmer.

⚙ Build & Practical Matters

• Fairly rugged in construction. As with many AKG vintage mics, the grille is sintered bronze and includes wind/pop shield; the grille can be removed (unscrewed) for cleaning.
• Detachable cable (for certain versions) and variants in connectors as mentioned.
• Handling noise is present; best used in a stand. Also, output is not very high, so preamps need some gain.
