The Crazy Tube Circuits White Whale Junior brings an almost impossible idea into a pedalboard-friendly format: a fully analog real spring reverb paired with an amp-style tremolo, inside a surprisingly compact enclosure. This is not a digital spring reverb emulation: there is a real 3-spring tank inside, using the same spring assembly found in its larger White Whale siblings.

In terms of sonic family, White Whale Junior is inspired by the world of vintage brownface/blackface amplifiers and classic outboard spring reverb units. That traditional placement of spring reverb before tremolo is a huge part of the sound: it makes the tremolo pulse not only the dry guitar, but also the reverb decay, creating the spacious, three-dimensional movement associated with vintage amps, surf, spaghetti western, soul, garage, dub and 60s tones.

The reverb section uses a dedicated analog power amplifier to drive the springs, rather than feeding the tank from a low-level signal path. Crazy Tube Circuits carefully voiced this driver to recreate some of the subtle saturation associated with a tube power amp and output transformer. That means when you push the Dwell, the reverb doesn’t just get longer or louder: it gains depth, splash, compression and mechanical character.

The controls are what you’d expect from a serious spring reverb unit: Dwell sets how hard the springs are driven, Tone shapes brightness and presence, Mix blends reverb on top of the dry signal, and Volume lets you match bypass level or add a healthy clean boost.

The tremolo section combines the smooth pulse of optical tremolo with the organic movement of vintage bias-style amp tremolo. It is not trying to cover twenty odd waveforms; it is designed to feel like a big, musical, deep amp tremolo, with direct Speed, Intensity and Volume controls.

Like every genuine spring device, White Whale Junior also reacts to the physical world around it: movement, vibration, playing dynamics and bumps can make the springs splash, crash and breathe. That is exactly part of the magic.
