Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.
You are looking at a gorgeous 1960's / 70's era Shure Brothers PE585SV dynamic cardioid microphone with the adjustable volume High impedance knob, mic cable, mic clip and mic case shown. This was basically a more sophisticated version of the common Shure 585SA model due to it's built in volume control knob.
Pic # 2 shows a pic of this very model from an old 1970's Shure catalog. This happened to be a favorite model to use for James Cotton back in the day (as seen in pic # 3) while performing live and this mic is often referred to as "The James Cotton Mic" because of that.
The volume knob on these older mics usually don't work very well from my personal experience but I take the time to disassemble them and clean them out. This one works perfectly again as it should. You'll notice that the volume does come on quickly at about the half way point which is normal for these mics but the signal strength is consistent with no glitches and there really isn't any point having a volume knob if it doesn't work properly right?
This microphone is great for vocals and general broadcasting but can even used as a great harp microphone with it's High impedance setting. I find it has more of a mid range tone. The satin chrome finish shows very lite signs of wear as seen in the pics provided. They rarely come nicer than this. The satin chrome has a very nice luster. The Shure logo that encircles the globe looks very good and completely legible. The actual chrome globe is free of any tarnish or dents and I added a thin foam liner to the inside of the globe as the old one had completely fell apart. This helps greatly with the sound characteristics.
The new foam will cut down on any unwanted "pops" you get when breathing close or in windy conditions.
The 585 SAV comes with a long 20 foot vintage Amphenol cable that's in great usable condition and comes with a male Switchcraft 1/4 inch end connector. The cable is soft and pliable. Free of any cracks or dry rot.
The mic clip is an original Shure A-25 model and it works excellent for this mic giving the user a wide degree of tilt up and down and hold the mic tightly. The clip shows just wear on one side of the clip but works perfectly. It will screw onto any desk or floor stand you use.
Also included is an older 5PE85SV plastic mic case in which to store or transport your mic. The case shows almost no wear. It works great and has a new foam inner liner to keep everything secure and snug. The case has a practical carrying handle and a locking mechanism on the lid. You've got everything you need. The mic is ready to go!
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
Overall I would rate this mic a 9 + on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department but I would recommend actually using this piece rather than for display. Made right here in America and built to last!
As with all my vintage microphone and related items...
