Julián Gómez Ramírez 1941

Julián Gómez Ramírez (1879–1943) was born in Madrid. He began his career as a luthier with José Ramirez I and later with Manuel Ramirez. Gómez Ramirez went to live in Paris in 1920. He played a key role in the history of French guitar making; it was at his workshop, in 1936, that Robert Bouchet discovered the Spanish tradition of guitar making. In some ways, one could say that Gómez Ramirez is the founder of the French school. Bouchet bought a guitar from him in 1936 that would influence his aesthetic approach when he began building his own guitars in 1946. Ida Presti and Alexandre Lagoya both played guitars made by this Julián Gómez Ramírez.

This guitar was built in 1941. The notes are round, flexible and colourful. We find the timbre and the beautiful expressiveness of the guitars from the Madrid school of the early 20th century. A very beautiful instrument, precious for historical reasons, but also a pleasure to play and endearing for its musicality.
