A cool 5-string JB-type bass with a competition line!

Black Smoker is a brand launched in 2016 by BLACK CLOUD, a workshop located in Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture.

Their guitars and basses, handcrafted by a small, elite team, have become a hot topic among many professional musicians.

Their BETA series, featuring traditional styles such as JB and PB types, offers many 5-string models, but their commitment to passive design sets them apart from other brands.

This particular instrument is a 5-string JB-type with a light aged finish.

The candy apple red body with a competition line features natural weather checking, and the balance between the cute matching headstock and the sophisticated aged finish is exquisite.

In addition to the standard 2 volume and 1 tone controls, the series/parallel pickup connection can be switched by pushing/pulling the tone knob.

The clarity of the low-B string's resonance was particularly impressive.

The guitar produces a consistent tone across all five strings, so the low-B string doesn't sound muffled, and it has the same texture as a 4-string passive JB, which is a major appeal.

Furthermore, the sound pressure increases significantly when connected in series, so even though it's a passive guitar, it possesses the core sound and punch required in stage and recording environments, making it easy to understand why it's so highly regarded by professional musicians.
