THE FINAL BOSS
The TD 200 stands at the very top of the Telefunken TD series — visually related, yet unmistakably elevated. The final authority of the line: more refined, more powerful, more deliberate in every detail.
It keeps the DNA of the series — the brown-grey plastic housing, silver accents, and the distinctive stripe joining the two shell halves — yet everything is sharper, more sculpted, more intentional. The proportions are more dramatic. The grille positioning slightly recalls models such as the Telefunken TD 25 and Telefunken TD 20, but the overall execution is clearly a step above.

TECHNICAL CONDITION
Fully functional. Converted to XLR for modern studio use.
The filter wheel operates across its full range. The on/off mechanism engages positively at the end position. Capsule performance is strong and consistent.
BUILD & DESIGN
Two-part plastic housing in classic Telefunken brown-grey with silver elements and the signature side stripe connecting both halves. The design is unmistakably TD-series — yet more mature and sculpted.
The front grille silver from the outside, and beneath it sits a matte black metal mesh, followed by a second finer inner black mesh layer protecting a large dynamic capsule. Despite its appearance, this is a front-address microphone, not side-address.
On the side of the grille sits one of the TD 200’s defining features: a continuously variable filter wheel. The wheel moves smoothly from “M” to “S,” allowing gradual low-frequency attenuation across the full travel. At the extreme end position, the mechanism clicks into the off position. This elegant solution combines on/off switching with a continuously adjustable bass roll-off in one control — highly practical and beautifully engineered.
The original cable is notably thicker than other TD-series cables — comparable to a modern studio XLR cable in diameter. This is striking for a microphone of its series and reflects the higher overall build standard. Internally, the cable construction is robust and well-shielded.
Capsule
Large dynamic capsule, front-facing orientation. The capsule assembly feels substantial and refined, matching the microphone’s elevated position within the TD family. more air tuned to reach all the way to 16k
Circuit
Passive dynamic design with integrated variable electric low-cut filter system.

SOUND CHARACTERISTICS
The TD 200 delivers drama.
It has weight in the low end, authority in the low mids, and enough openness in the upper range to keep instruments alive and present. The frequency response feels extended and confident, without becoming harsh. There is body, density, and impact — particularly satisfying on drums and guitar cabinets.
The continuously variable low-cut filter is one of the most enjoyable aspects of this microphone. The transition is smooth and progressive rather than abrupt. It may not be the most surgical filter by modern standards, but it is highly effective and musically satisfying. You can dial in just the right amount of low-end control, shaping proximity effect or tightening a drum source with precision.
On drums, it captures punch and mass. On guitar cabinets, it translates drive and texture without thinning out the source. It is sufficiently open to work as a main dynamic mic in a rock context while still retaining a certain vintage authority.
